Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will any of our data pass through or get stored by your company?
A: It depends on if you have AI features turned on. If they are turned off then the app is 100% hosted on your Confluence instance. Your data does not leave your instance, and we have no access to any content you place inside any of our macros. If AI is turned on, then the content you place in the AI-specific fields is processed to generate the content. But this is the only content that is processed.
For more information on what information we do or don't collect, see Data and Analytics.
Q. How do the AI features use data?
A: Our AI features work by processing prompts to generate content suggestions. The only data processed is the data provided in the AI fields; no user data is processed or stored. This data is not retained and is not used for any purpose other than content generation.
Q: My company does not allow the use of AI features. Can I turn them off?
A: Confluence admins can turn off AI features for the whole instance. This is done using Feature Controls.
Q: How do I get better content from the AI features?
A: Getting good content out of AI depends on asking for exactly what you need. The more specific you are the better the content is likely to be. Check out our guide to writing AI prompts to learn more.
Q: Why are there so few macros compared to Content Formatting Macros for Confluence Server?
A: Confluence Cloud is very different to Confluence Server/DC. Becuase the editor offers a lot of new features many of the macros you may have used are no longer needed. We have focused on creating macros for Cloud that add value and enhance what Confluence Cloud offers.
Is there a macro that you would like to see supported in Cloud? Do you have an idea for a new macro? We want to hear from you! Please forward your requests and ideas via our customer support portal or our app feature feedback page.
Q: Why do some macros appear as Unknown Macro during or after a migration from Server to Cloud?
A: Not all macros on Content Formatting Macros for Confluence Server are available in Content Formatting Macros for Confluence Cloud. Any macros that cannot be migrated, show with the Unknown Macro message. For more detailed information about what macros are available on what platform, check Support for Migrated Content.
Please note, the content of any macros that cannot be migrated are still kept in the storage format of the page, so you can manually extract this content if needed.
Q: When I migrate Content Formatting Macros content from Server to Cloud will supported macros automatically show correctly or will I need to do anything?
A: Migrated content is shown in Confluence's legacy editor. It will closely resemble your Server version with slight differences. You can edit your pages in the legacy editor before converting to the new Cloud editor. This is shown on our Converting Content to the New Cloud Editor page.
Q: Why don’t some Atlassian, Content Formatting, and other third-party macros work together?
A: Nesting - due to a limitation of the way Confluence Cloud works rich text macros cannot include other rich text macros as content. The limitation has been added by Atlassian to prevent performance issues for users.
You can add bodiless or plain text macros, such as a Button or Code Block macro, to a rich text macro.
Q: Why can’t I add more than one set of progress bars on the same page?
A: This is tied to the nesting issue above. The Progress Bar macros in Server work as a pair; with a container macro in which to nest the progress bar steps. We cannot offer containers in our Cloud macros. Instead, we treat each progress bar step added to a page as part of a unit.
Q: Why can’t I export some macro content to PDF?
A: Due to a Confluence limitation, the Export to PDF functionality does not work with macros that require JavaScript to render on the Confluence page. If you want to preserve your content in PDF format, we recommend using your browser’s built-in functionality to print to PDF.
Q: Can I add comments to the contents of macros?
A: You can add comments to most macros from the view page. For instance, you can add a comment inside a tab or a background. You can not add comments inside a Pop-up Dialog.
Q: Do mentions work inside comments inside macros?
A: Due to limitations of Confluence mentions do not work inside comments added on the view page. If you need to get someone's attention with a mention inside a comment, you can add it to the edit page and the mention will work as expected.
Q: Why do I have a lot of blank space beneath my tabs?
A: If you have a large blank space beneath a set of tabs it is likely because you have a large amount of tabs in the set. Confluence adds a small amount of extra space beneath each macro. If you only have a few tabs it is not noticeable but if you have a large number it can add up. If the space is a problem the best option is to split your tabs into smaller groups.
Q: Can I add a LaTeX equation inline with my text?
A: LaTeX equations can be added inline with text. To achieve this the text must also be entered inside the LaTeX macro. The equation is identified by adding $ at the beginning and end of the equation.
