Protected Custom Fields is a security-focused access control app for Jira. It lets admins create custom fields and precisely control who can access their values by assigning permissions to specific user groups, all while keeping sensitive data protected.
With Protected Custom Fields, you can:
- Create custom fields where you can control access to their values.
- Define which user groups can access each field's value.
- Protect sensitive information with end-to-end encrypted field values.
- Sensitive information is hidden by default and is only revealed when explicitly unmasked by the user, reducing the risk of shoulder surfing.
This reduces the risk of data exposure, keeps confidential information secure, and gives teams confidence that only the right people have access to critical data.
Uninstalling Protected Custom Fields deletes access to your protected values
Protected Custom Fields uses an encryption key to protect your custom field values. The key is unique to your site and only accessible to you.
The app creates and stores this key for you when you install it. It's kept in Atlassian Forge storage, which means it's tied to your app installation.
If you uninstall the app, the key is deleted. Reinstalling creates a new key, and a new key can't decrypt values protected by the old one. Any values protected before you uninstalled can't be recovered.
Please bear this in mind when making decisions on using the app, or deleting the app.
