Resize of side bars

Has anyone customized the Theme Builder such that the left slider (or right slider) allowed for their corresponding sidebar to be resized (sort of the way it works in the documentation theme)?

It would also be good if the sidebars would support scroll bars rather than wrapping the text. Is any of this possible with minor customization or am I looking at a pretty hefty amount of html and javascript?
